Chapelle Saint-Jacques art center displays "Nocturnal reflections", the self-portraits that Stéphane Belzère has been making during his regular stays in Berlin for the past 12 years. Nearly 400 small format paintings, that is to say the almost complete set of this series started in 1996, are gathered for the first time. The artist paints himself at dusk or at nightfall, through the reflection of the window of his kitchen. His body is a pretext to capture the contrasts, the materials, to describe the effects of transparency and of light on the flesh. Like a diary, these paintings form a multiple image of a single identity that reinvents continually.
This exhibition is a proposal that follows the ones at the Cantonal Museum of Zoology in Lausanne and the Denys-Puech Museum in Rodez.
